Egypt’s Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar called for stronger international cooperation to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR), stressing that the challenge demands integrated action across health, environmental, and agricultural sectors.
Speaking at a ministerial session of the One Health Summit 2026 in Lyon, Abdel Ghaffar underscored the importance of the “One Health” framework in addressing zoonotic diseases, AMR, and environmental risks. He noted that Egypt has adopted this approach through multi-sector strategies, including a national One Health strategy (2023–2027) designed to strengthen institutional coordination and tackle shared health threats.
