As part of UNRWA’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare for millions of Palestine Refugees, the Agency recently concluded a five-day Electronic Medical Records (EMR) workshop in Amman, marking an important milestone in the Agency’s ongoing digital health transformation. The EMR platform is a cloud-based system that securely connects laboratories, pharmacies, and other external medical partners, empowering UNRWA healthcare workers with real-time access to critical patient information. The recently held workshop brought together teams from all UNRWA’s five fields of operation, with strong participation from both the Health Department and the Digital Innovation and Information Technology Department (DITID), highlighting a unified commitment to modernising UNRWA’s health services.
Over the week, participants reviewed how key health services operate and tested the systems’ features. The teams jointly identified priority areas to ensure the new EMR solution—developed with support from UNRWA’s partner, Health Insight Asia (HIA)—responds effectively to the diverse needs across all UNRWA fields of operation. Inputs from colleagues representing Jordan, the Gaza Strip, the occupied West Bank, Syria, and Lebanon ensured that field realities and clinical workflows are fully reflected in the evolving system design.
The workshop reinforced the value of close coordination between field teams, health experts, and IT specialists to build a secure, scalable, and patient-centred EMR system. The collaborative sessions set the foundation for upcoming phases including configuration, testing, and wider user engagement.
