The Iraqi government and the United Nations in Iraq signed on Thursday the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for the period 2025 to 2029.
Iraqi Minister of Planning Muhammad Ali Tamim and Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for the UN Ghulam Mohammad Isaczai signed the UNSDCF, according to a statement released by the UN office in Iraq.
Under the agreement, 25 United Nations agencies, funds, and programs will provide technical guidance to Iraq in support of its national goals and plans, which are in line with Iraq’s Vision 2030 and the sustainable development goals.
The step indicates a common commitment to making progress in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, employment opportunities, action on climate change, and good governance.
The move also emphasizes the importance of ensuring that no one is left behind, particularly focusing on marginalized populations.
The UNSDCF focuses on four important strategic targets, which are improved access to education, health, and social services; jobs and economic growth; environmental protection and climate change mitigation; as well as strengthening public institutions and fostering fairness and justice.
