The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged countries in the Africa region to actively engage in awareness campaigns, promote screening and encourage HPV vaccination among their young women. In a message commemorating January as cervical cancer awareness month, WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti pointed out that in 2020, about 100,000 women in the region were diagnosed with cervical cancer, and about 70,000 of them lost their lives to the disease.
