The Tunisian Ministry of Health is preparing a new national plan to strengthen maternal and neonatal healthcare, aiming to improve the quality of care and achieve the 2030 goals for maternal and child health. The project was the focus of a meeting chaired by the Minister of Health. Mustafa Ferjani, dedicated to evaluating the obstetric and neonatal care system, the patient referral mechanism, and the activities of the gynecology, obstetrics, and neonatology departments. The meeting was attended by ministry officials and heads of specialized departments, who identified the system's main critical issues and priorities for intervention.
According to the Ministry of Health in Tunisia, the national plan includes strengthening the skills of midwives and primary care physicians, unifying treatment protocols, improving patient admission and transfer processes, equipping healthcare facilities with necessary equipment, strengthening pregnancy monitoring, integrating private healthcare sector indicators, and accelerating the digitalization of medical records. Minister Ferjani also emphasized the need to strengthen coordination between the various levels of healthcare to ensure "more effective and continuous care for mothers and newborns," in line with the national maternal and child health goals by 2030.
