World Food Safety Day / Bangladesh event unveils food safety magazine and calls for collaboration


The Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation (BFSF) organized a seminar and unveiling of a magazine on 21 June 2025 in Dhaka, Bangladesh with Saidur Rahman, Secretary of the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare as the Chief Guest. The seminar focused on the “Use of science for better management of food safety: Bangladesh perspective.” Preceding the seminar's presentations, the guests on the dais performed the ceremonial unveiling of 'Nirapod Khadyo Kothon” (Food Safety Talks), the Bangladesh Food Safety Foundation's inaugural magazine issue.

Keynote speaker Dr Monzur Morshed Ahmed, Director of the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), highlighted that scientifically determined procedures are followed at every step of the food supply chain. He noted the Codex Alimentarius Commission's guidelines, applicable globally, and explained how improperly following good practices and hazard analysis harms human health, discussing the challenges. He stated that while established food industries can produce safe food following the established scientific methods, smaller and cottage-level enterprises cannot. Therefore, he stressed the importance of increasing resources and technology utilization by relevant government and local government institutions to ensure food safety.

Among the panel discussants, Engineer Md Saidul Islam, BSTI, Rebeka Sharmin, Nestlé, Dr Sk. Mahtabuddin, Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority, Agriculturist Dr M. Jaynul Abedin, Professor Dr Md Riazul Islam, Mahbub Kabir, Former Member, Dr Iqbal Rouf Mamun, Dhaka University, Dr Md Shahinur Alam, Department of Livestock, and others presented their respective views on the seminar's topic. They emphasized the importance of awareness among all parties, food safety culture, enhancing the capacity of food control agencies, collaborative work, and providing training.
