Libya Flood Response Situation Report (11 October 2023)

Health priorities:

Restoring functionality in PHC facilities. PHC centres in towns and cities along the coast between Almarj and Derna have been damaged and have lost medical equipment, ambulances, power supplies and Internet connections. Four PHC centres in Derna have been identified by MoH as priorities for urgent repair.
Providing mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services. MHPSS is one of the most pressing needs. A total of 2000 people in Derna were receiving mental health support prior to the floods: these services will need to be expanded and sustained. Libya has established a Higher Committee on Mental Health to take this work forward.
Filling critical gaps in medicines and medical supplies. Shortages of medicines, vaccines, medical supplies and equipment in health facilities have substantially reduced access to health services. This is a critical issue for chronic disease patients who no longer have access to life-saving medication.
