Egypt cancer screening drive tops 18 million examinations in two years

Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population said on Friday that a presidential cancer screening program has examined more than 18.1 million citizens since its launch two years ago, part of a broader push to expand early detection services across the country.

The Presidential Initiative for Early Detection of Cancerous Tumours, which screens for lung, prostate, colon and cervical cancers, has been running since June 2023 under the government's "100 Million Healthy Lives" campaign, targeting Egyptians aged 18 and above.

The statement added that the program works by first directing citizens to complete an electronic questionnaire to assess risk factors and symptoms, with suspected cases then referred for further testing and treatment.

Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel-Ghaffer urged citizens to visit their nearest health unit or the ministry's initiatives page to fill out the initial questionnaire.
