This guidance details strategies for integrating mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) within sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) response services to promote the well-being of patients, survivors and service providers. It is intended for front-line providers, programme managers and MHPSS technical staff, and complements the Inter-Agency Standing Committee MHPSS Minimum Service Package.
Humanitarian crises expose people to violence, restricted access to services and social isolation, all of which affect mental health and psychosocial well-being. The guidance promotes gender-responsive, survivor-centred approaches and coordination among MHPSS, SRH and GBV actors.
Key strategies include joint situation analysis, capacity-building for front-line workers on psychosocial support and trauma-informed care, safe and confidential service environments, community engagement through women-led organizations, and gender-responsive monitoring and evaluation. The guidance also addresses the well-being of front-line workers and identifies entry points for integrating new MHPSS activities into GBV and SRH programming, helping teams to deliver services that respect people’s rights, choices and dignity.
