Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Executive Director Diene Keita on the sidelines of the World Health Summit in Berlin to discuss strengthening cooperation in population issues, reproductive health, maternal and newborn care, and family planning.
The Minister stressed the importance of supporting Egypt’s National Population and Development Strategy 2023–2030, improving healthcare for women and young people, ensuring the sustainable availability of family planning methods, and developing healthcare workers.
Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said cooperation had reached more than 8 million women with reproductive health awareness services, while around 4 million benefited from family planning methods. It also included training 6,790 nurses and 5,624 healthcare providers in family planning counselling, infection control, youth-friendly services and mental health first aid.
Discussions also covered strengthening supply chains, expanding midwifery services and reducing unnecessary caesarean sections.
