21% increase in blood donations in 2022 in Oman

Collections at the Central Blood Bank in Bausher increased 21 per cent in 2022 compared to 2021.

Statistics released by the Blood Donation Services Department show that a majority (97 per cent) of the blood collected was through voluntary efforts, and 77 per cent of the donors were Omanis. Of the total donors, 49 per cent were first timers.

The blood bank collected 39,712 units of blood and 2,381 units of blood components in 2022.

Dr Zainab al Arimi, Director of Blood Bank Services, praised the role of the blood donors and the cooperation of various authorities and donors with the Central Blood Bank. She added that the increase in the number of blood donations is due to community awareness of its importance, as well as media’s role in conveying this humanitarian message.
