Syria and Germany’s KfW Development Bank are seeking to accelerate joint health projects and address financing and implementation challenges as part of efforts to support the recovery of Syria’s health sector.

Health Minister Musab al-Ali discussed the projects with a KfW delegation headed by Anna-Christine Janke during a meeting at the ministry in Damascus on Monday.

The talks focused on financing mechanisms, obstacles affecting ongoing projects and measures needed to speed up implementation and improve healthcare services.

Al-Ali said accelerating the projects would support Syria’s recovery and help create conditions conducive to the return of Syrians to the country.

He also called for a sustainable partnership with Germany based on exchanging expertise and drawing on international experience, particularly German and Japanese post-war reconstruction models, to strengthen the health sector and promote greater self-reliance.
