Sudan Cholera Snapshot - Issue 2, 29 February 2024

The role of infection prevention and control (IPC) during a cholera outbreak

Preventing and controlling cholera requires a coordinated approach that encompasses multiple aspects including provision of safe water, sanitation, early case management as well as proper infection prevention and control at healthcare facilities and cholera treatment centres.

Implementing infection prevention and control measures (IPC) in cholera treatment centres (CTCs) and cholera treatment units (CTUs) is central to the case management pillar of the cholera outbreak response in Sudan.
Sudan’s Federal and State Ministries of Health, WHO, and health partners are implementing IPC in all CTCs/CTUs to protect healthcare workers, copatients, and visitors from health-facility-acquired infections.
