The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) provided primary healthcare to more than 615,000 patients in Afghanistan during the first half of 2026, while supporting people with disabilities, conflict-affected families, returnees and communities in need of water and other essential services.

According to the ICRC’s operational figures for January through June 2026, 615,766 patients, 64.54% of them women, received primary healthcare at 47 Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) basic health centers supported by the ICRC.

The ICRC said 184,973 routine vaccination doses were administered and 4,339 malnourished children benefited from nutrition programs at 46 ARCS-supported clinics. Its healthcare support included medical supplies, technical assistance and services focused on women, children and other vulnerable groups.

The ICRC also assisted 105,932 people with disabilities through seven physical rehabilitation centers across Afghanistan. The centers provided prosthetic and orthotic devices, physiotherapy, mobility assistance and rehabilitation services.

During the reporting period, 15,002 prostheses and orthoses were manufactured and 80,641 physiotherapy sessions were provided to people with disabilities. The ICRC also supported vocational training, interest-free microcredit loans and sports activities aimed at promoting the social and economic inclusion of people with disabilities.

Support for Conflict-Affected Families

Following an escalation in the Afghanistan-Pakistan armed conflict, the ICRC provided multipurpose cash assistance to 16,940 households, representing 135,520 people, affected by the fighting in Khost and Jalalabad areas.
