Health Minister Musab al-Ali said the ministry’s efforts are focused on advancing healthcare transformation through implementation of the National Health Strategy 2026–2028, and gradually shifting from addressing emergency needs to building a more integrated, sustainable and resilient national health system.
Speaking during a session dedicated to presenting and discussing the WHO Regional Director’s annual report for 2025–2026, held as part of the 73rd session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean in Cairo, al-Ali stressed the importance of measuring health progress, ensuring equitable access to healthcare services, particularly for the most vulnerable groups, and increasing investment in health information systems and national institutional capacities.
Al-Ali called for developing a regional framework to support countries transitioning from emergencies to recovery and improving flexible, predictable financing mechanisms to ensure continuity of healthcare services and achieve health-related Sustainable Development Goals under country-led efforts.
The annual report reviews progress in regional health, ongoing challenges and the World Health Organization’s efforts in cooperation with member states over the past year, helping identify priorities and areas where action needs to be accelerated.
