Insecurity Insight identified 1803 incidents of violence against or obstruction of health care in Myanmar since the military coup on 01 February 2021 and 28 October 2025. During these incidents health facilities were reportedly damaged or destroyed 435 times, 160 health workers were killed and 903 arrested. Almost three-quarters of these incidents were attributed to the Myanmar Armed Forces (MAF).
Since January 2025, restrictions to medicine access and transportation have increased. Beginning in early August, the junta authorities restricted the transport of medical supplies, including sanitary pads, baby diapers, mosquito nets, and oxygen cylinders, from Mandalay to conflict-affected townships in Sagaing region and Chin, Kachin, and northern Shan states (areas mainly controlled by ethnic armed groups and the PDF). Transportation of these items now requires an approval letter from the junta's regional administration. Female sanitary pads and baby diapers were specifically banned because authorities suspected the PDF was using them as gauze for wound treatment.
