Jordan ranks 1st in tobacco use in Eastern Mediterranean region, WHO report says


Ammon News -A new report issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) reveled that tobacco use rates are rising in six countries in the world, including (Jordan, Egypt and Oman), while continuing to decline in various parts of the world, reaching 1.25 billion adults who use tobacco.

The report ranked Jordan first country with the most tobacco use in the Eastern Mediterranean region, with a rate of 36.3%, followed by Lebanon with 34% and Egypt with 24.7%.

The report, which is titled “Trends prevalence of tobacco use 2000–2030,” the trends in 2022 show a continued decline in tobacco use rates globally. About 1 in 5 adults worldwide use tobacco, compared to 1 in 3 in 2000.
