Targeted support strengthens health services and information management at Sinja Hospital in Sudan’s Sennar State

Faster processing of patient records, uninterrupted availability of essential medical forms and more timely reporting to health authorities are strengthening health services at Sinja Hospital in Sennar State. The improvements, supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) through the World Bank-funded Sudan Health Assistance and Response in Emergencies (SHARE) Project, are enhancing continuity of care, strengthening disease surveillance and supporting evidence-based planning and decision-making.

Sinja Hospital is a key referral facility serving communities across Sennar State. Before the intervention, the hospital’s Information Department faced persistent shortages of stationery and lacked functional basic equipment such as photocopiers. Staff frequently had to leave the hospital to copy documents, delaying administrative processes and increasing operational costs. Shortages of prescription pads and standardized forms disrupted routine services; incomplete and delayed reporting affected the quality of health information available for district- and state-level planning and evidence-based decision-making.

To address these challenges, WHO, through the SHARE Project and in collaboration with implementing partner Pan Health Care Organization (PANCARE), provided stationery, printing materials and equipment, folders and standardized forms, including prescription pads.
