Strengthening essential healthcare services for the people of Syria

To support early recovery efforts in war-torn Syria, UNOPS and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) will help enhance access to vital health services in underserved areas of Rural Damascus.

Following years of conflict, Syria is navigating a complex transition and a compounding humanitarian crisis. Millions are struggling to survive amidst widespread displacement and shortages of basic necessities, including healthcare.

Targeting vulnerable populations, including internally displaced persons, UNOPS and UNFPA will rehabilitate three primary healthcare centres and equip them with solar power systems. A fourth healthcare centre will also be equipped with renewable energy solutions.

"This project is a critical step towards ensuring that vulnerable populations in Syria have access to the care they need," said UNOPS Executive Director Jorge Moreira da Silva. "By integrating sustainable energy solutions, we are also contributing to a more resilient health system.”
