UNDRR’s Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) participated in a one-day regional reflection meeting in Amman marking the culmination of the two-year programme, “Harnessing Synergies between Climate Change Adaptation and Risk Reduction in Migrant-Inclusive Health System Responses,” funded by the Migration Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MMPTF) and jointly implemented by IOM, WHO, and UNDRR across Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon.
The meeting convened government counterparts, UN partners, civil society, and donors to review achievements, capture lessons learned, and shape a forward-looking agenda for scaling and sustaining migrant-inclusive, climate-resilient, and disaster risk-responsive health systems in the region.
The programme aims to mainstream a gender-sensitive human mobility lens into national public health adaptation and disaster risk reduction (DRR) strategies, supporting national efforts and contributing to the Global Compact for Migration and relevant SDG targets through a focus on vulnerable populations and universal health coverage.
Across the three countries, the programme delivered:
Improved evidence base: comprehensive analysis of the climate change, human mobility nexus, and vulnerability assessments on health and adaptation to inform policy decisions.
Policy coherence: enhanced convergence between public health adaptation and DRR strategies, integrating migrant-inclusive and gender-sensitive approaches.
Stronger capacities: strengthened healthcare systems and increased awareness among migrants and host communities on climate-induced health risks.
Government representatives from Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon presented results and lessons learned, supported by short country videos and reflections on what worked, what remains challenging, and how progress can be embedded within national frameworks and coordination mechanisms.
