Finland funds mental health project in Lebanon’s refugee camps

A new development cooperation project funded by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs will begin in early 2025 to support mental health and resilience in Lebanon’s refugee camps. The initiative, named Azima, aims to bolster psychological well-being and crisis endurance among displaced populations in the region.

Finnish psychologist Nina Lyytinen will travel to Lebanon twice a year to train local family centre workers and supervisors in mental health, workplace well-being, and psychological resilience.

The project will also employ 12 local social workers for four years to carry out community-based mental health support across Lebanon’s camps.

"Palestinians have faced decades of challenges, but the need for psychological expertise is more critical now than ever. It is an honour to bring Finnish know-how to those who need it most," said Lyytinen.
