Egypt’s influenza season began about three weeks earlier than usual, but the spread of the virus is now slowing, the Ministry of Health and Population said on Monday, citing nationwide surveillance data.
Deputy Health Minister Amr Kandil said influenza viruses are currently the most prevalent respiratory pathogens in Egypt, followed by rhinovirus and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). He added that the A/H1N1 strain, which dominated in late November 2025 and was linked to more severe symptoms, has declined significantly.
