Khartoum, Sudan’s capital, is slowly and cautiously showing signs of revival, as some families, displaced by the sudden eruption of conflict in April 2023, begin to make the journey home. The city, however, is grappling with immense challenges: widespread destruction, damaged infrastructure, and limited access to essential services, including electricity and water. Less than a third of hospitals and only around 17 percent of health facilities are still operational, leaving pregnant women, in particular, struggling to access life-saving care.
