UK INGO Launches Largest Medical Deployment in Syria Since Liberation

Manchester-based Action For Humanity has sent almost 50 NHS doctors to Syria in the organisation’s largest medical mission since the liberation of the country. The team will deliver urgent care across five regions and train Syrian medical staff in essential capacity-building programmes.

The scale of need remains immense. In 2025, an estimated 15.8 million Syrians require humanitarian health assistance. According to the WHO, only 57% of hospitals and 37% of primary healthcare centres are fully operational. Between 100,000 and 300,000 unexploded munitions continue to endanger lives, especially children returning to damaged towns and villages.

Action For Humanity CEO Othman Moqbel said:

“This deployment is about standing with the Syrian people at a time when their health system is on its knees. We are here not only to treat the wounded, but to help build a future where Syrians can depend on their own hospitals and doctors once again.”

The doctors are providing trauma and emergency care as well as maternal and general health services. Training local staff is central to the mission, ensuring that capacity remains long after the deployment ends.

Action For Humanity is calling on international donors to step up support for Syria’s devastated health system and for governments to prioritise clearance of explosive remnants of war. The organisation warns that without immediate investment, the number of Syrians in need of medical aid will continue to climb.
