Summary

The present report is submitted pursuant to General Assembly resolution 77/1, entitled “Solidarity with and support for the Government and people of Pakistan and strengthening of emergency relief, rehabilitation, reconstruction and prevention in the wake of the recent devastating floods”, adopted on 7 October 2022, in which the Assembly requested the Secretary-General to provide an update on the implementation of the resolution, followed by a full report during its seventy-eighth session.

The report contains details of United Nations support for the response of the Government of Pakistan to the unprecedented flooding that occurred in the country between June and August 2022. It covers the initial humanitarian efforts and the development of key frameworks such as the Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Framework and provincial initiatives led by the Government of Pakistan. It provides a description of the mechanisms established for the coordination and oversight of the response, including the International Partners Support Group and others facilitated by the United Nations Development Programme and the World Bank. The report also sets out the way forward, emphasizing investments in climate financing and ecological restoration to prevent future disasters.
