Morocco’s government has adopted a bill creating an integrated national health information system, a step officials describe as a strategic turning point in modernizing the kingdom’s healthcare sector.

At the heart of the reform is a central platform designed to manage the secure flow of medical information between public and private healthcare providers, built on strict interoperability standards meant to break down the historic silos between institutions while safeguarding data confidentiality and traceability. The bill also creates a unique national health identifier for every patient, enabling continuous tracking of an individual’s care across prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.

A shared medical record will centralize each patient’s identity, administrative data and complete medical history, with the law requiring all health professionals and institutions, public and private alike, to feed this record at every consultation or medical procedure. Every access to the record will be logged through a dedicated electronic portal to prevent misuse and ensure full traceability, L’Economiste daily explained.
