Kuwait ranks 9th globally in confirmed breast cancer cases

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 9: The Ministry of Health confirmed that Kuwait ranks ninth in the world in the rate of breast cancer among women, reports Al-Jarida daily. The head of the radiology department at Al-Adan Hospital, Dr. Latifa Al-Kandari speaking of the National Program for Early Detection of Breast Cancer says the department conducted 20,483 mammograms in various health centers and hospitals from 2014 to 2019, of which 233 cases of breast cancer were discovered, and they were referred to breast oncologists, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Al-Kandari explained that the Breast Cancer Early Detection Program is a national and preventive health practice that aims to detect early breast tumors, noting that most of the cases discovered were in the first and second stages. She stated that most cases of breast cancer did not suffer from any symptoms before the “mammogram” examination, and did not feel any pain, secretions or tumor, adding that the cases of infection in 2014 amounted to 26 cases, and increased in 2015 to 60, then the cases began to decrease in 2019 to reach 46. She appealed to all women to go to the examination, indicating that mammogram examination centers are open in hospitals and health centers throughout the year, to receive them and conduct the examination to avoid any complications.
