The Ministry of Health in Gaza stated on Saturday that thalassemia patients in the sector are facing double pain, turning their treatment journey into a daily struggle for survival.

The ministry clarified in a statement that the shortage of specialized medicines, lack of laboratory testing materials, blood transfusion scarcity, rare blood units, destruction of specialized medical centers, and social conditions alongside repeated displacement are overwhelming factors threatening their lives.

It reported that 50 patients died during the war out of 334 patients, of which 47 cases had left the sector. It pointed out that 237 patients are still in the sector, including 52 cases under the age of 12 and 185 cases above 12 years old.

The ministry indicated that the destruction of laboratory infrastructure and the unavailability of laboratory testing devices for conducting preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic tests is warning of the emergence of a new generation of undiagnosed cases, undermining decades of preventive work.
