Breast Cancer Cases Surpass 50% of Cancer Patients in Afghanistan: Official

Amid Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the technical head of the National Cancer Control Program said that breast cancer ranks among the top ten most common cancers in the country.

Khalid Khalilzai reported that in 2023, 1,283 patients with breast cancer visited this center for treatment.

According to Khalilzai, among patients with ten types of cancer in the country who visited the program’s treatment center last year, 50.9% were breast cancer patients.

The technical head of the National Cancer Control Program said, "Last year, breast cancer cases accounted for 50.9%, showing an upward trend compared to the previous year."

Doctor Ahmad Jawed said: "Lack of physical activity and weight gain are ... among the causes."

"If diagnosed early, a woman can live five to fifteen years, provided it is accurately diagnosed and treated in time. However, some women, after surgery or initial medication, abandon their treatment, “said Najmulsama Shafajo a doctor.
