Alarming tobacco use in Jordan, health minister releases survey results


A national survey on tobacco use among adults, launched by the Ministry of Health, has revealed concerning statistics regarding tobacco consumption in Jordan.

According to the survey, daily smoking rates stand at 65 percent among men and 17 percent among women.

The survey further indicated that 38.6 percent of smokers began their habit before the age of 18, highlighting the early onset of tobacco use among the population.

Minister of Health, Dr. Firas Al-Hawari, announced these findings during the launch of the national survey, which covered individuals aged 15 and above.

In related news, Minister of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Sites, Dr. Mohammad Al-Khalaileh, emphasized that all Islamic jurisprudence bodies worldwide classify smoking as forbidden due to its harmful effects.

He pointed out that Islam prohibits anything that harms the human body, with smoking being a prime example.
