Responding to health emergencies: WHO impact in 2022
Introduction
When the World Health Organization (WHO) launched its first consolidated global health emergency appeal at the start of 2022, an estimated 274 million people needed urgent humanitarian assistance. Throughout the year, the health, social and political consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic remained apparent, including increasing prices of essential commodities. These consequences were further exacerbated by the war in Ukraine and its impact on global food systems, prices and access.
