Highlights
• Somalia has had uninterrupted cholera transmission in 29 droughtaffected districts since 2022 and in Banadir region since the drought of 2017.
• During week 36, 167 new suspected cases with two associated deaths were reported from 29 drought-affected districts. The number of new cases reduced by 24% in all districts and by 51% in Belethawa in the past two weeks. (Table 1).
• Since epidemiological week 1 of 2023, a total of 13069 suspected cases of cholera including 33 associated deaths (CFR 02%) were reported from 29 districts of Somalia.
• The overall case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.3% reported from 29 drought-affected districts is below the emergency threshold of ≥1%, however the CFR in Burhakaba is 1.1% which is higher than the threshold.
