Muscat Municipality, represented by the Directorate General of Health Affairs, presented a paper – titled ‘Fats and oils in food processing and its impact on health’ – at a seminar organised by Oman Association for Consumer Protection.
The paper included information on the harmful effects of oils and fats, and the direct relationship of these with obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and other health conditions.
The paper also explained the risks of reheating cooking oil several times, which leads to health complications including obesity, chest pain, stomach pain, indigestion and heart diseases, as consumption of trans fats increases the level of harmful cholesterol in the body.
