Egyptian authorities announced Sunday the detection of a new, rapidly-spreading variant of the coronavirus.
Hossam Hosni, head of Egypt’s Scientific Committee to Combat Coronavirus, said that the variant was detected a few months ago. It only affects the upper respiratory tract, Hosni said.
He also denied rumors that antibiotic injections were causing deaths.
